Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

I ofen thought they all had to be very tall and cylindrical structures. Well that is not the case on Roanoke Island between the mainland and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Short and square cottage-style structures like this one were once common on the sounds and coastal waterways to aid navigation in shallow waters. The original one was built in 1877 and was located nearby on the Croatan Sound near Wanchese. After it was decommissioned in 1955, it fell off a barge and sunk to the bottom while being moved during rough waves. To preserve history and revitalize their waterfront, the citizens of Manteo built this replica in 2004. Now visitors can learn something new of days gone by, when they come to see the ... Roanoke Marshes Light.
